I'm still struggling to look acceptable in summer fashion. Autumn will always have my heart, and a big reason for that is how fun the clothing pieces are! In summer, it's hot and sweaty and I just want to wear a tank top & shorts like I'm going to Disneyland. But it has come to my attention (by me) that it's time to step it up and enjoy what summer solstice has to offer. Fashion included. The living is said to be easy, so the outfits should follow.

Could you believe I found this Saint Laurent blazer for $50 on theRealReal? This item is identical to the current season's pinstripe blazer which sells for just under $2500. Even my pets are amazed. It's the perfect piece to empower any woman. Blazers instantly dress up ensembles with a sophisticated flare. This piece is very fitted so there is sheer femininity broadcasted.

Saint Laurent has quickly stolen my heart. The pieces are impeccable. Timeless, really. So again, I shopped vintage YSL. This time, at Poshmark. This piece is a different vibe, but elegant just the same. It's a gray jacket with padded shoulders, and there is no football player essence at all. Her debut had to be draped over my shoulders, paired with a turtleneck tank top and a couple work accessories (Bluetooth headset, mask)

Despite not being allowed to try on clothing at Nordstrom, I found this gem by assuming it would fit. This is a BCBGeneration blazer that I purchased with hesitance because of it's color. But the light material and intriguing cuts are why I decided to call this piece mine.

And there you have it, effort in summer fashion.

I'm going to get deep by maintaining the shallow. Make sense? Didn't think so.

Why do I obsess over materialistic things? The old adage states that guns do not kill people, people kill people. What responsibility does a luxury item hold? It is what it is (another tired saying). What is a Louis Vuitton trunk aside from an exceptionally crafted piece of luggage, created with care & love with only the best materials? It's people who regard luxury items as worth more than they may actually be. I'm tired of people. Things, that's where my heart is. Never have I been left by a purse. I have never caught a wallet calling me outside of my name. My shoes have never broken a promise. And with zero emotional pain, there is all the room in the world for beauty.

The beauty is even more than the piece. Do I need lambskin leather or 24 karat gold plated silver to carry my belongings? No. But in the beauty of the piece is the beauty of my ability to obtain it. Unfortunately, I have looked in the mirror and deemed myself worthless. It was my fault for feeling that way, and my fault for allowing mistreatment by others to affect how I saw myself. That is no longer the case, those feelings are long gone. Every gaze at my luxury collection is a powerful reminder that I am independent. I am able to manage my finances, my life, my priorities. And with that self discipline, as well as many blessings, I am able to afford and maintain my own lifestyle adorned with pieces that aren't essential.

Before, I put most of my efforts into showcasing my love for others with gifts. And for what? It was a way of bribing those I love to stay around me. Well, it didn't work. I've accepted that either my plain self isn't enough to keep them invested in my life, or that their love language doesn't include partaking in my world at all. Either or, it's okay. I'm not focused on that. My mind is set on myself, learning how to better myself... how to reward myself.

No longer am I seeking the time of others, the reciprocating of others. I have been supporting myself for quite some time now. And my newfound love of luxury items is symbolic of the shift in my life from looking to others for love, to loving my own self. And I'm lovely.

I never considered myself to have much in common with Carrie Bradshaw. But the way she glorified Manolo Blahnik created some desire, at least to try out the brand. In the past, I have tried the BB Pumps only to find discomfort. Then they went on sale! As if that was going to affect the fit of the shoe... call me a dreamer because I can't handle words that would better suit me for buying not one but two pairs.

They both ended up going back to Nordstrom. But you know what? It was an experience. Not only did I see how little Nordstrom inspects your purchase upon return, but I learned that I am a sucker for a sale. Something to work on and improve!

Note: The pink pair didn't even make it to a photoshoot. Is this how Cinderella's stepsisters felt? My poor feet!

Despite the warning they heeded, I went with my regular size. Note that these are sold out. And the sale was spectacular. Maybe once in a lifetime... okay, once in a season. But still, it pained my to say goodbye. Should I have kept them and sold them on Poshmark for more than I purchased them? Would I have seen a return on my investment, or was a return to Nordstrom best? There wasn't even a time limit, as I purchased these in May and obtained my refund in July. C'est la vie.

HONORABLE MENTION: My new Hermes scarf is a favorite purchase of 2020

THE STORY BEHIND

Based on the design of the La Folle Parade scarf: This young French illustrator creates her first scarf, expressing her whimsical world on silk. This Folle Parade, "an enchanting masquerade straight out of a toy box full of wonders", was inspired by an 18th-century engraving depicting a carnival float in Rome. Humor, fantasy, and a touch of madness emerge from this composition. The float in the center is surmounted by turrets and pulled by a disguised, masked horse. A multitude of strange and humorous tableaux play out around the edges, with wheels, architectural features, masks, tortoises, men with animals' heads, and jacks-in-the-box all busying themselves, frolicking around in constant motion.
